Bumblebees
Hello and welcome to the bumblebee class, full of lots of fun and learning! Since your children are approaching pre-school, a few things may be different this year that your child is not used to.
First of all, our class size is much larger and will consist of about 25 kids per day! This will help our kids become more comfortable in a large social setting as well as prepare them for the preschool class (and later Kindergarten). Secondly, our bathrooms are located in the hallway, so your child will be granted the freedom to use the bathroom on their own from time to time as well as experience bathroom breaks as a class. Finally, we do not allow toys from home in our classroom other than nap time because we have experienced too many items being broken or lost. We know that every child transitions differently and we will make accommodations as needed until your child gets used to a new room at Duncan.
This year we are using a great new program called "Jolly Phonics" to teach the alphabet sounds and letter recognition to your children. Instead of focusing on one letter per week, we will introduce one sound per day and plan activities around that particular sound. According to the latest research, this is the best way to prepare your child for beginning reading stages and leave them fully equipped for next year's pre-school class while introducing them to more than one letter per week!
